With the Gum Day designated to notify the nation of periodontal disease and its severity, we select critical topics in periodontics and provide research materials for professors studying the relevant fields. We also constantly carry out nationwide PR activities with press conferences to set the right policy direction for timely issues regarding prevention of periodontal disease.
It was a meaningful occasion attended by various guests such as the advisory council and executive branch of the Korean Academy of Periodontology, chairman of the Korean Dental Association, chairman of the Korean Dental Hygienists Association, and CEO of Dongkook Pharmaceutical. The event consisted of progress report of the Gum Day in the last 8 years and discussions about the future direction. This year, the chronic disease staff of Seoul attended the event, discussing the PR and management of periodontal disease at the urban clinic after the celebration.
Marking the 4th anniversary this year, the event was held on Thursday, 16th of March at Hanyang Women¡¯s University, titled ¡®Scaling for the Disabled,¡¯ a talent donation activity by the Korean Academy of Periodontology, Hanyang Women¡¯s University Department of Dental Hygiene, and Dongkook Pharmaceutical Insadol Volunteer Group. Over 30 members of the Korean Academy of Periodontology and 30 members of dental hygienic students formed a team as did last year to provide education on scaling and brushing teeth for over 80 trainees with disabilities at "St. Benedict Rehabilitation Center" who have difficulty receiving dental treatment.
Clinics in each area are also holding the ¡®Nationwide PR Project of Periodontal Disease with Clinics,¡¯ co-hosted by the Korean Academy of Periodontology, Korean Association of Public Health Dentists, and Korea Society of Public Health Dental Hygienists and sponsored by the Division of Oral Health and Healthy Life in the Bureau of Health Policy at the Ministry of Health and Welfare. This year, the nationwide PR project is being carried out in 35 clinics, but once we arouse national interest and establish an exclusive department for prevention and early treatment of periodontal disease, this project will be developed into a national scale for national oral health.
